installing openmpi on Mac OS 14 — at Version 2

I downloaded mac ports
The command 

sudo port install openmpi
Error: Port openmpi not found

The port routine exists in /opt/local/bin 

whereis port
port: /opt/local/bin/port

What do I need to do to make it find openmpi?

Are you able to install any ports? Does sudo port selfupdate complete successfully?
