No good reason to keep 2.3.x in my opinion.

It is not a bad idea in general to update a port to a final maintenance release of a series before updating to the next major series.

Well this might be an issue - I wish they'd gone all out for Qt6
LyX can be built against Qt6 toolkit via --enable-qt6, though this is still considered experimental. Meanwhile Qt5 (the default) remain supported.

I updated to 2.3.8. The time I checked the 2.4 didn't build.

Is there any reason to keep a 2.3.x version? I'd rather have not have 2 versions to maintain.
