    99then I can build and run gmp on a current system in Intel mode, with all the assembly enabled, and it passes all the tests.

    13 Please give that a try on your machine as well. It's pretty easy to add that flag to the gmp build.

     15THis is a much better fix than trying to build it with gcc.

     17(NB. Up until 3 days ago, gcc14 was configured to always use ld_classic -- so it may be that the reason gcc worked was because it was using ld_classic).
