#11585 closed defect (fixed)

portindex should print errors to stderr, not stdout

Reported by: ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt) Owned by: jmpalacios (Juan Manuel Palacios)

Description

portindex currently prints all information using "puts" and it ends up on stdout. This makes it impossible to suppress the normal status messages (which I don't care about) while still seeing any errors which occur (which are important to me). portindex should print errors to stderr instead. I don't know what the tcl syntax is for that so I can't submit a patch.

I am using MacPorts compiled from trunk a.k.a version 1.5 but the version popup menu does not give me a version 1.5 to select.
