This patch completely rewrites the cracklib portfile and patches to use the cleaned up, more appropriate distribution at http://sourceforge.net/projects/cracklib/.

Ah. Forgot to mention: I'd be happy to take over maintainership of this port. Also, from my checks, there are no dependencies on this port currently.

How hard would it be to build the python module(s) as variants? Are you sure the cracklib-words dictionary isn't a run depends too? Is the pw_dict.* losless?

Building the python modules as variants seems like a good idea -- I will investigate this further.
The cracklib-words dictionary, on the other hand, isn't a run depends as well because it is compressed lossless into the pw_dict files. Once those files are built (according to the author) it shouldn't require the dictionaries anymore. I will do some additional testing to verify this on my own later on during the week.
