Not sure if this will help you, but when I've encountered this elsewhere on OSX 10.8, I've found that unsetting the LANG environment variable was a sufficient temporary workaround. Try unset LANG before building.

The file src/pcb-menu.res.in (and thus the files derived from it) contains a non-UTF8 character. See if setting LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO8859-1 helps, as per the attached patch.

Hello,

is there anything that needs to be done (i.e. that I can do) to get this ticket fixed and closed, so that people affected by this bug, can continue to use pcb again? I am new to macports’ ticketing system, so any hint why this ticket isn’t fixed yet, would be really appreciated!

The ticket hasn’t been closed because no one has confirmed that Josh’s patch fixes the problem. If you can confirm, we can commit it and close the ticket.

% curl 'https://trac.macports.org/raw-attachment/ticket/36330/Portfile.diff' | \
    sudo -u `stat -f '%Su' \`port file pcb\`` patch `port file pcb`

Well, then, Josh’s patch fixes the problem for me. pcb builds and runs as expected afterwards!
