This needs to be updated to work with the new autoconf stuff, but we should bring in most of this patch.

athena$ /afs/sipb.mit.edu/user/ssen/opt/local/bin/port search bzip2 bzip2 sysutils/bzip2 1.0.2 bzip2 compression library and tools athena$ uname -a SunOS contents-vnder-pressvre.mit.edu 5.9 Generic_112233-05 sun4u sparc
This port needs a lot of work, though...
Harlan, I've committed some parts of your patch. Mostly the trivial stuff of using "test" instead of "[". We need some autoconf tests, and an fgetln replacement, and an mtree replacement...

I have updated the instructions in base/doc/README.platforms for using DarwinPorts on Solaris. I was able to use SunSoft cc to compile all the dependencies of DarwinPorts manually, and then install ports.
The only caveat is that you may need to add a binpath to ${prefix}/etc/ports/ports.conf including /usr/ ccs/bin, since DarwinPorts will normally sanitize your PATH to something that doesn't contain all the toolchain elements for Solaris
PAtches to get "base" working under solaris.
