Description
I noticed the python port group and I am wondering if it is appropriate to use it in the gnumeric portfile, and if so, what is the best way to use it. Currently, Gnumeric uses variants to establish which version of python to use, and it is currently only compatible with 26 and 27. Please advise.

The python portgroup is for software that is installed with a distutils-style setup.py script.
In other words it is not relevant to Gnumeric?

That's correct, the python portgroup is intended for python modules (add-ons). It is quite common for ports that are not python modules to have python variants.
The python portgroup is for software that is installed with a distutils-style setup.py script.
