Regarding the comment # setting any arguments to ./configure will probably fail, that probably means you need to adjust how the universal variant works as well, since by default it adds a configure argument.

Regarding the string ${destroot}/${prefix} which appears twice in the portfile, ${prefix} already begins with a slash, so it is not correct to prefix it with another slash.
