We probably don't want to rename the patchfiles that way. These days, the [purpose].patch naming scheme seems to be more popular than the older patch-[file-or-purpose].diff.

Ok, but lint warns about that. Do you want to change the names or should I do it?

Side note: is it preferred to do this still via trac attachments or should I simply do pull requests with trac tickets w/o attachments?

Please go ahead and make the patch name changes.

I don't think either method is preferred. I don't believe that everyone (like me) regularly checks pull requests. But there may well be Macports developers who do check that more often than tickets. So do what is easiest for you.
